Daniil Medvedev and his good friend
Stefanos Tsitsipas are through to the
Open 13 Provence quarterfinals after victories on Thursday.
Many questions were posed before Medvedev stepped onto the Marseille courts as his performance in Rotterdam left many things to be desired. His response was brilliant and he dispatched a very tricky player in Gerasimov without many issues. His tennis was not a world-beater but he did enough to win the match 6-2 6-4 in 72 minutes. Crucial to his victory was his return who worked to perfection especially early with the Russian winning the opening set 6-2. The 2nd set was a bit tougher but Medvedev found a way and he moves on past in straight sets which should make him glad.
Joining him in the quarterfinal will be Stefanos Tsitsipas who played French native Lucas Pouille 6-2 6-3. Stefanos looked much sharper than in Rotterdam which might due to the fact he won this event two times already and he enjoys playing in Marseille. He controlled points very well forcing Pouille to play longer rallies which increased the possibility of unforced errors. There was an abundance of those in his win and together with his strong attacking play on the serve it was more than enough to secure the victory.
