Two-time Grand Slam champion Garbine Muguruza has pulled out of the Western & Southern Open but says she still wants to play the US Open.

The 2020 Australian Open finalist revealed that she is experiencing discomfort in her left ankle, and therefore made the difficult decision to withdraw from Cincinnati.
"I hope I will be able to keep improving and compete at the US Open," she said. "I will work hard so I can be there in a few days."
Ranked World No.16, the Spaniard was off to a hot start this year after reaching her fourth career Grand Slam final at the Australian Open. However, she is yet to make it past the fourth round of the US Open.
The Western & Southern Open is normally played in Cincinnati but will be held in New York this year due to the ongoing pandemic. It is scheduled to run from August 20-28, 2020.
