World No.6 Stefanos Tsitsipas was among one of the first to arrive in New York, and the Greek star has already been practicing on court.
The 22-year old will compete at the upcoming
Western & Southern Open and at the
US Open, both of which will be held at Flushing Meadows due to the pandemic. Having only three seeded players ahead of him;
Novak Djokovic,
Dominic Thiem and
Daniil Medvedev, the Greek could be looking at a top 4 seeding at both events.
Furthermore, Tsitsipas suffered first round exits at last year's Cincinnati and
US Open events. Barring a repeat performance, the reigning
ATP Finals champion could accrue a lot of ranking points at both events. This could see him break into the Top 4, surpassing his previous best ranking of World No.5.
Tsitsipas
finished runner-up at the recently concluded
Ultimate Tennis Showdown, but displayed spectacular form at the event. A deep run at Flushing Meadows is definitely a possibility, as he was on a roll before the Tour's suspension.
