Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka made her return to the WTA tour earlier this year following maternity leave. After competing on hard courts and clay, the Japanese superstar will kick off her grass court campaign at the 2024 Libema Open s-Hertogenbosch this summer.
The Libema Open is a WTA 250 event, slated to run from June 8-16, 2024. The tournament will be Osaka's first grass court event in five years, with her last appearance being the 2019 Wimbledon Championships. The former World No.1 had been out of action for 15 months, giving birth to her daughter Shai in July 2023. Osaka returned to the WTA in January 2024, and will be making her debut at the Libema Open.
Another Grand Slam champion will feature at the popular grass court tournament, as Bianca Andreescu has also been confirmed for the event. The 2019 US Open champion had been dealing with injuries since August 2023. However, she returned to the WTA tour in time for the clay court season, and will look to get some warm ups on grass in s-Hertogenbosch prior to Wimbledon.
Americans Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro were also recently announced for the event. Navarro has been having a breakout season this year and sits just outside the top 20 in the WTA Rankings.
Growing up in a household where soccer was king, my earliest memories are filled with chants from packed stadiums and the rhythm of a ball being passed across neighborhood streets. But somewhere along the way, the quiet elegance and raw emotion of tennis pulled me in. What began as a curiosity became a lifelong passion; not just for the sport itself, but for the stories it tells: of grit, of heartbreak, of improbable comebacks and human resilience.
As a tennis writer, I bring the observational lens of someone who didn’t grow up in the sport, but fell in love with it as an outsider; a perspective that lets me see both its technical beauty and its emotional depth. Over the years working with TennisUpToDate, I’ve had the privilege of reaching more than 3.5 million readers worldwide, with one of my features ranking among the site’s top three articles.
With a background in storytelling and a creative mind always searching for meaning beyond the scoreboard, I aim to craft narratives that go deeper than results and rankings. Whether it’s a rising star breaking through or a veteran fighting off Father Time, I try to capture the heartbeat behind the headlines.
