After Anna Kalinskaya was spotted on Court Suzanne-Lenglen watching Jannik Sinner in his Roland Garros opener, the social media sleuths were seemingly correct about their new tennis power couple and the World No.2 confirmed it albeit with little detail.
Sinner spoke in his press conference after taking down Christopher Eubanks 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in his first round and was asked about Kalinskaya and whether they are together. He has said before that he isn't a fan of talking about his private life and won't even share a picture of him and his brother.
But while reiterating that, he put the rumours to bed by confirming that he is with the Australian Open Quarter-Finalist. Sinner was in a relationship with Maria Braccini for some time up until recently. But given the lack of social media that he uses, it wasn't certain when they broke up.
“You know me, I don’t like to talk about my private life, but we are together," said Sinner during his press conference at Roland Garros when asked about the 25-year-old Russian.
But rumours started to circulate after they were spotted together in Turin during Sinner's stint at the Juventus Medical Centre. Italian media started to report rumours that they were together and these intensified in Paris. Seen together in a restaurant in the capital, they also shared a moment on court during practice.
Kalinskaya who also reached the final of Dubai earlier this season plays Clara Burel this afternoon. Currently having the best season of her career, her form has slightly gone on the slide since the run in the UAE with injuries blighting her once more. She previously also dated Nick Kyrgios albeit in a fractious relationship.
For Sinner though, it is double reason to smile. He spoke on court after the win and confirmed his hip was fine and that he isn't 100% yet but is building towards it. He next faces the French crowd as well as Richard Gasquet who were in fine voice for him yesterday. But a double dose of happiness seemingly for the World No.2 who is also World No.1 elect. Novak Djokovic now has to reach the final to unseat him taking over.
“The hip is good. I’m happy. I’m glad my team and myself were working hard to be on court as soon as possible. Without the team it isn’t possible. The general shape isn’t 100% yet. We try to build every day. This is a special tournament. Thanks everyone that supported. It was amazing. A roof closed for the first time on Suzanne. So I’m very happy.”
"I’m obviously happy about what I achieved in the last few months. But our goal is to improve every day. That’s more important for me. I know I have to improve some things. I’m happy I have my team. They push me every day. Let’s see what I can achieve in the future. Also being happy on the court is maybe the most important. I truly enjoy to play tennis.”
