Wimbledon has taken another hit with
Naomi Osaka officially pulling out of the event.
Naomi Osaka has officially pulled out of Wimbledon due to taking some time off and spending time with her family. The announcement is not a shocking one as rumblings about the possibility of it have been present ever since she withdrew from Roland Garros but the timing is a curious one.
Wimbledon tournament director Jamie Baker confirmed a day ago that the event was holding talks with Osaka's camp about possible participation but he would not share too many details. It seems the talks have not been fruitful as Osaka is officially out.
The statement reads:
"She is taking some personal time with friends and family. She will be ready for the Olympics and is excited to play in front of her home fans."
It's a similar sentiment expressed at her French Open withdrawal announcement which will make fans wonder whether she was denied the possibility of skipping press conferences at Wimbledon as well. No details are yet available and we will update you as more information is available.
As noted above she will participate in the Tokyo
Olympic games which was somewhat expected as Japan host the games.
