Emma
Raducanu changes her coaching team and adds Nick Cavaday to her staff before
the 2024
Australian Open. The British coach worked with the 2021 US Open
champion during the off-season as part of her preparation for the upcoming
season, but it was initially unclear if it would only be for the weeks leading
up to Raducanu's return.
The former
world No. 62 collaborated with Raducanu at the National Tennis Center, and the
21-year-old tennis player has now decided to bring Cavaday on board. Although
he wasn't with her at the ASB Classic, it is expected that he will travel to
Melbourne to support Raducanu during her participation in the Australian Open.
Reunion
with an old acquaintance
Cavaday
worked with her at Roehampton’s National Tennis Centre before Christmas, and it
is likely that Raducanu will collaborate with him throughout the season.
According to Sky Sports, the former tennis player Somdev Devvarman has also
been involved in some recent training sessions with the Briton and could work
with her over the course of the season.
This week,
Jane O’Donohogue, who previously worked at the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA),
supported Raducanu in Auckland. However, the coach now has a career in finance,
and it is unclear whether Donoghue will also be present at the Aussie Open.
Stirring excitement
in Raducanu's comeback
This week,
Raducanu had a promising performance at the ASB Classic, showcasing a high
level after being away from the courts for 9 months. The former world No. 10
secured a hard-fought victory against Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-3, 4-6, 7-5) and
then faced a tough match against the second seed Elina Svitolina (7-6, 6-7,
1-6).
Before the
start of the first Grand Slam of the year, Raducanu will participate in the
Kooyong Classic exhibition tournament, where her likely opponent will be the
16-year-old Russian star Mirra Andreeva on January 10th.
