Ons Jabeur was on the brink of beating Beatriz Haddad Maia at Roland Garros (French Open) but after losing those break points, Jabeur completely shut down.
It was a pretty big choke from Jabeur who had the match on her racquet and dominated pretty well on her serve. She still folded in the biggest moments against a player who spent four hours more than Haddad Maia at this event, but also one that had a brutal match before this one, just two days ago.
The match literally came down to Haddad Maia outworking her opponent which speaks volumes considering what had happened in the previous rounds. The first set was very up and down. Both players struggled to keep their serve but for the most part, it looked like Jabeur had a really easy time winning points.
She won the opening set 6-3 but was unable to exert a lot of pressure on her opponent in the second set. It was a very stark difference between the sets as they looked nothing alike. Both were good on their serve and when Jabeur had break points at 5-5 it seemed like it was going to end soon. It didn't as Jabeur had to save a break point in the next game which she did.
The tiebreak looked very flat from Jabeur who was outplayed by a very energetic Haddad Maia who went for it a bit more this time around. The wind also picked up rendering her drop shot useless in the latter part of the match which was a big issue for her as well. The final set was just poor all around from Jabeur against a player who was playing really well to finish it off.
In the end, Jabeur looked great at the start but very poor towards the end.
