Tunisia’s tennis star
Ons Jabeur believes that federations
all over the world only listen to players who are successful.
The 29-year-old is currently the world number seven and has
already played in three Grand Slam finals in the last two years.
Jabeur is perhaps the most notable player to join Novak
Djokovic-led the Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA).
The organisation was established to become the voice of the players,
especially those who are playing in the lower levels.
Jabeur was recently quoted in a report where she stated that
when she was not in the top 10 players in the world, no one in the federation
used to listen to her.
“Before, if I talked, nobody would listen because I wasn't
in the top 10 & I wasn't a top player, but now they listen,” she said. “Now
they would care about my opinion. I feel like it's wrong to only listen to the
top players, but for me, I feel like I need to make a difference right now. I
need to speak up for every woman about what's wrong & what could be better.“
The Ksar Hellal-born had a difficult year despite playing
some very good tennis. The highlight of the year for Jabeur would definitely be
the Wimbledon 2023 final.
However, the defeat
in that match left her heartbroken as it was the second time in two years that
she lost the Wimbledon final.
