The WTA Luxembourg tennis event had semi-finals today and in those Ostapenko and Tauson proved victorious. Jelena Ostapenko took on Samsonova after the Russian upset Bencic a day earlier and Ostapenko was on fire to start the match. The defending champion wasted no time smashing Samsonova in the opening set 6-1.
The 2nd set was a bit trickier as the Russian played a lot better and Ostapenko was able to overcome her only in the tiebreak. She was lucky to escape in the tiebreak as she had a 4-0 lead earlier in the set but completely collapsed to allow Samsonvoa to come back into the match. In the end, she moved on with 7-4 in the tiebreak.
Joining Ostapenko in the final of the event will be young Clara Tauson who is once again proving herself to be a force on the indoor circuit. Her lone title came earlier in the year in Lyon also on indoor hardcourts and tomorrow she will play for another one. Tuason faced off against Vondrousova and she started well winning the first set with 6-4.
In the 2nd she collapsed losing it 2-6 before coming back to win 6-4 in the 3rd. Vondrousova struggled with her fitness a bit in the 3rd a called a brief medical timeout before resuming the match. However, it was the Danish player who moves on to face Ostapenko in the final tomorrow.
