Daniil Medvedev fulfilled a longtime dream of his by winning a grand slam trophy at the 2021
US Open but his coach Gilles Cervara revealed what is next for the Russian.
Not many things top the winning of a grand slam title in tennis but for Daniil Medvedev, it's only the start. The Russian has been working towards that goal for a very long time and seeing it happen at the 2021 US open was a huge morale booster for him. His coach Gilles Cervara revealed it was only part of a package of things he wants to accomplish and that package includes the number one spot on the rankings. He said:
“It’s a package, they are legitimate objectives. But above all, I tell myself that it involves work and improving
many things on a daily basis. The team has already started to think:
yes, he wins a Grand Slam, but we can see a lot of things to improve."
Cervara highlighted that both Medvedev and his team understand that this was only the beginning. To truly achieve what they want to achieve they will need to work every day:
“These things represent the concrete aspects to be deployed with a
view to a potential future great result. To be number one and win other
majors, you have to achieve concrete things, at work, every day. We will do them. After that, if it goes well, we’ll say ‘hey, we’ve won.'”
