Tennis star Daria Kasatkina has achieved a lot during her lengthy career, and the Russian can add being named the 2023 Female Hero of the Year by Outsports to her growing list of accolades.
Kasatkina turned pro in 2014, and has won six WTA singles titles and one doubles title. Additionally, she has been ranked as high as World No.8, with her best Grand Slam performance to date being a semifinal appearance at the 2022 French Open.

The 26-year old came out as gay in July 2022, and has been a staunch advocate for LGBTQ rights. Additionally, she has been outspoken regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine, publicly denouncing Putin's statements and ideologies.
Kasatkina has become a beacon of sorts for people in the LGBTQ community, and those who feel silenced due to being trapped in situations from which they cannot flee. Her strong anti-war stance and fight to empower others have seen her take on an activist-like role, while still maintaining good results on the tennis court. It comes as no surprise that she was nominated for and eventually ran away with the Outsports 2023 Female Hero of the Year award.
