Famous tennis coach
Patrick Mouratoglou has stated that
Japan’s
Naomi Osaka is ‘extremely motivated’ to win a Grand Slam in the near
future. The 26-year-old was once regarded as one of the best players in women’s
tennis in the singles category.
However, things changed for Osaka. First, she decided to
take a break from tennis to deal with mental health issues, and later, she was
forced to stay out of action because of pregnancy. Ever since returning to the
court, Osaka has found it hard to deliver consistent performances at the highest
level and has recently decided to hire famous tennis coach Mouratoglou.
The 54-year-old has recently spoken to Sky Sports, where he
talked about how it has been to work with the former world number one. Mouratoglou
stated that Osaka was ‘extremely motivated’ to win another Grand Slam. He also
said that the Osaka-born star believes she still has much to give to the tennis
world.
"I think we worked so well together because I think we
were both motivating each other all the time,” he said. “I knew exactly how to
talk to her. She knew exactly how to talk to me. I was pushing her, she was
pushing me and that was like that every day. So that's why it works so well.
For Naomi, it's different because she really feels she has to give and do much
more. She had two very difficult years. First, she had this mental health
issue, and then she had a baby. So she's been out, and then she restarted the
year this season and it was not a very good season. Before the first tournament
we did together she was 80 in the world and she knows she can do much more than
that. She's extremely motivated to come back and win Grand Slams, and it's a
pleasure for me because that's the dream of every coach: to have a player who
has that level of motivation."
