Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won't play on grass this year as the Russian can't enter
Wimbledon due to her ranking and she also didn't get any wild cards.
Pavlyuchenkova dealt with a lot of injuries in recent years which is a shame as her career was turning a positive page with a Roland Garros final. Due to not playing for a while, she lost her ranking which made it tough for her to enter events. The protected ranking option was used by the Russian to enter a few clay events, her best surface and she played fairly well at the recent Roland Garros earning some much-needed points.
Unfortunately for the Russian she also used up her two protected ranking entries for Roland Garros and the Australian Open as the situation with Wimbledon was unknown. The ban was lifted but she didn't a wild card into the event which was no surprise so she can't play. Her hope is to improve her ranking for the US Open.
Some update
The Russian posted an update on her status on social media naming it 'some update'. She wrote:
"Hi all, I want to announce that I will skip grass season this year. Unfortunately, after 9 months of absence last year, I'm not able to enter some tournaments through my ranking and I didn't receive wild cards to play the grass events I was hoping for. Additionally, I already used my two Grand Slam Protected Rankings at the Australian Open and in Roland Garros meaning that I cannot take part in Wimbledon. It comes with a big disappointment but I will focus on smaller events in July on clay, prepare the rest of the season and hopefully climb my way into the US Open main draw. See you soon and thank you so much for your support".
