Petra Kvitova will contest the
Miami Open semi-final after beating
Ekaterina Alexandrova in three sets 6-4 3-6 6-3 to face Cirstea for a spot in the final.
Petra Kvitova found something great in Miami this year making her way to the quarter-finals. There she faced Ekaterina Alexandrova who has also been playing a really strong event so far. It was a good match, one that went the distance and gave the fans what they essentially wanted to see. The first set was close but Kvitova got it done 6-4 mainly by serving better.
It gave her better initiative in rallies and avoided the very thing that happened to the Russian. Alexandrova didn't serve that well and she gave Kvitova too many chances on the second serve and she used it by winning 60 % of those points. The second set saw Alexandrova apply far more pressure on Kvitova.
The Czech player didn't handle it well, especially in the rallies and it resulted in Alexandrova taking the set 6-3. The final set saw solid play from both players but once again it was Kvitova that was sharper overall. She relied heavily on the serve and it didn't really let her down, especially in the crucial moments. That can't be said for Alexandrova who is packing her bags.
