Petra Kvitova was one of the main misses from the 2024 Australian Open Entry List alongside Bianca Andreescu and Belinda Bencic with the latter being pregnant and the Canadian still struggling with injury from Montreal.
Kvitova is not pregnant though despite rumours swirling on social media and instead like Andreescu has hardly trained since getting injured. But the Czech ace will probably miss the Australian Open instead of fully being out of proceedings.
Previous hints at leaving sport
According to iSport, the pregnancy rumours are false. At the same time though, she has not trained on court for 11 weeks since sustaining a back injury at the China Open. She has only done gym sessions. Also she recently took some down time to visit the Austria mountains showing the likelihood is she won't be ready for the new season with most players back in pre-season training already ahead of United Cup and assorted Australian Open warm-ups. "Petra's preparation for the season is complicated by a persistent back injury. She will only decide how it will be with the Australian Open," said the tennis player's spokesperson Karel Tejkal.
She won the Miami Open surprisingly in 2023 and got married in the summer in a superb year, but it soon turned into a poor end with injury and finishing 6-5 only just record wise after Wimbledon. She also hinted at potentially becoming a mother at the US Open hence the rumours after losing to a returning mother in Caroline Wozniacki. "I once made a video in which I said that I would not play anymore at thirty. But life evolves and the beliefs I had as a young person change. Also thanks to the fact that the body still holds on. I would never have said that I would still be playing tennis here at thirty-three. I rather thought that I would already have children," said Kvitová in New York in September after being eliminated from the American Grand Slam.
