The Czech duo of Pliskova and Kvitova had no issues on day one of the US Open when they defeated their opponents in straight sets. Karolina Pliskova demonstrated her good form entering the US Open by demolishing Kalinina in only 63 minutes of play. Despite not hitting the 1st serve at an impressive rate she racked up 7 aces to go along with a 80 % win rate clinching the 1st set 6-4.
She was even more impressive in the 2nd set winning it 6-0 in 21 minutes of play. Circumstances have made Pliskova the first seed at this year's US Open but she certeinly looked like it on the 1st day.
Similar to her compatriot Kvitova had an easy going on day one of the US Open. Her opponent was Irina Begu from Romania and she had no chance against Kvitova. She put a valiant effort in the 1st set which she lost 6-3. The 2nd set was worse for her as she completely capituled particularly on her own serve.
Kvitova continued to play very good from the baseline which allowed her to win break points easily. After some time it was already 4-1 to Kvitova in the 2nd set and from there on she cruised to a 6-2 2nd set victory.
