The
Hong Kong Open will take place between October 9-15 and is one of the last WTA 250 tournaments of the season. Our
preview runs through the top talking points and those involved over the next week.
Despite many top names deciding to attend Zhengzhou or in Jessica Pegula's case, the Korea Open, it still has a good field assembled.
The Asian swing continues with Mirra Andreeva, Victoria Azarenka, Beatriz Haddad Maia, Elise Mertens among others involved over the next week in Hong Kong.
Bad blood as Andreeva faces Yastremska
Mirra Andreeva is one of the top names involved and will face off against Dayana Yastremska in the opening round. This tie in particular garners interest due to the actions of the former.
Yastremska asked the WTA to sanction Andreeva after the 16-year-old tennis prodigy liked posts related to Putin and laughing at the invasion of Ukraine. But the former received no response back.
They faced off earlier in the year in Lausanne with Andreeva taking the win and now will face off again.
Andreeva has kicked on superbly since then losing out to Elena Rybakina recently after winning the opening set and will look to kick on this week with a big chance to do so.
But the winner no matter what will face an intriguing tie with the top seed Victoria Azarenka facing Leylah Fernandez in the first round.
A battle between a legendary former World No.1 and a former major finalist. Peyton Stearns also lurks in that corner with the recent birthday girl who turned 22 showcasing superb talent in recent months.
Beatriz Haddad Maia and Elise Mertens are also among the top seeds with an intriguing week incoming at the Hong Kong Open.
