All is set for the women's
Roland Garros semifinals, featuring highly anticipated matchups that will determine the finalists of the 2025
French Open.
Aryna Sabalenka,
Iga Swiatek, and
Coco Gauff were arguably the three biggest names positioned as contenders at the start of the tournament, and all three will be playing this Thursday.
Joining them will be one of the biggest surprises in recent years: wildcard
Lois Boisson, who has already eliminated heavyweights like Pegula and Andreeva.
Lois Boisson vs. Coco Gauff
World No. 2 Coco Gauff has been consistently among the best players on clay courts for several seasons, especially after reaching the Roland Garros final in 2022. This year, she has shown she's ready to go a step further. After reaching the finals at both the Madrid Open and Rome Open, she continues to demonstrate her consistency on the surface, with a 15-3 record on the clay-court swing.
Gauff defeated Australian Open champion Madison Keys in an all-American clash (6-7, 6-4, 6-1), breaking Keys' 11-0 major winning streak this season. Gauff has now achieved 25 wins at Roland Garros at just 21 years old, numbers that place her among the best young players in the tournament's history, though she is still seeking her first crown in the event.
Gauff reached semifinals at Roland Garros for third time in her career.
She will have to face the tournament's biggest surprise – probably of the season so far – Lois Boisson, the world No. 361 who has captured everyone's attention this tournament. Initially seen as a talent to watch, she then went on to eliminate world No. 3 Jessica Pegula and No. 6 Mirra Andreeva.
The Frenchwoman – who received a wildcard – has had the local crowd at her feet and has shown a strong personality, having fun with them. This will be a factor to consider in the match, but not the only one. Boisson has a powerful forehand with a lot of swing, which adapts perfectly to the conditions of Philippe Chatrier. Boisson is in a dream from which she surely doesn't want to wake up; can she overcome Gauff's pedigree this time?

Aryna Sabalenka vs. Iga Swiatek
The match everyone has been waiting for, even considered a premature final: the world No. 1 faces the three-time defending champion for the first time this season, and in a very different situation from their last encounters. The last time, Sabalenka took the win at the Cincinnati Open 2024 – but then Swiatek was No. 1 and the Belarusian was 'only' No. 3. The current head-to-head favors Swiatek by 8-4.
In less than a year, many things have changed. Swiatek hasn't found the consistency of the first part of 2024 and has fallen in the rankings, not reaching a final for a year, while Sabalenka, in the interim, has won 6 titles and reached three other finals, in addition to widely dominating the top of the rankings.
In any other scenario, Sabalenka would likely be a much bigger favorite, but Roland Garros is Swiatek's kingdom and the place where she has shown her best tennis in her career. She has four Roland Garros titles – the last three in a row – totaling 26 consecutive wins in the tournament, a streak rarely seen in history. No woman has ever won four consecutive titles at Roland Garros in the Open Era, and Swiatek is just two matches away from achieving it.
Swiatek's record in French Open is 40-2. She won her last 26 matches in a row.
The Pole survived a tough fourth-round encounter against a remarkable Elena Rybakina, coming back from 1-6, 0-2 down to secure a three-set victory. In the quarterfinals, she had a tight match against Elina Svitolina, but Swiatek was better in the important moments, securing a 6-1, 7-5 win.
On the other side, Sabalenka overcame two difficult opponents in her last matches. First, Amanda Anisimova – against whom she had a negative 2-5 head-to-head record prior to the match – and then Zheng Qinwen, avenging her loss three weeks ago at the Rome Open, where the Chinese player had defeated her for the first time.
