After making the Quarter-Finals of the
US Open losing to eventual new World No.1 and losing finalist, Aryna Sabalenka, Qinwen Zheng has continued her impressive rise as of late winning the Asian Games.
Zheng saw off Alexandra Eala yesterday to reach the gold medal match where she took on her compatriot and fellow Chinese star, Lin Zhu in a battle of the two top names from the nation.
It went the way of 'Queenwen' as she is dubbed in a 6-2, 6-4 win and as a result, she books her spot in the 2024 Olympic Games which will take place in Paris.
Also she becomes the fifth Chinese player in a row to win the Ladies' title following Qiang Wang twice, Shuai Peng and Jie Zheng. Up towards the top 20 in the current WTA rankings, she has also done it without Wim Fissette now in her corner.
She said post match that he breached contract to go back to working with Naomi Osaka when she returns from maternity leave in 2024 leaving her without a coach and one that helped her to a lot of success.
But she showed in her Asian Games run that perhaps this was the setback she needed to thrive and she certainly did that against Lin Zhu.
