Emma Raducanu is through to the Transylvania Open quarterfinal with a strong win over native Ana Bogdan 6-3 6-4.
Emma Raducanu played a much better match than in the previous round showing better tennis overall and an increased comfort level on the Cluj-Napoca courts. The British player looked much more confident in her game and while Bogdan did put up a good fight it was the Brit from start to finish. Raducanu saved three early break points in the first service game and that proved enough to shake off some early nerves.
She broke Bogdan in the very next game after some stellar shot-making and that was all she needed. Games were competitive after that but Raducanu controlled her service games rather easily. Bogdan applied pressure but she never quite found a way to properly stress Raducanu as the Brit closed out the 1st player with 6-3.
The 2nd set was a bit more interesting as Bogdan did find some solution from Raducanu which allowed her to fight back from an early 2-0 hole. When Bogdan pulled it back to 2-2 and then took a 3-2 lead it seemed like the Romanian found a way. However, Raducanu was not to denied and she upped her intensity just a little bit which proved enough.
She went on a run to take a 5-3 lead which Bogdan reduced to 5-4. In the final game of the match Raducanu was brilliant closing it out and moving on to the quarterfinals. The Brit dominated on her first serve winning 88 % of those points. She was worse on her 2nd serve but it was enough for today.
