After a disappointing performance at this year's Wimbledon,
Emma Raducanu righted the ship with an easy victory over American Louisa Chirico at the Citi Open Washington.
The reigning US Open champion put on an impressive display to prevail in a 6-4 6-2 victory, overcoming some first set nerves to defeat her opponent. The British star relied on her power from the baseline to dictate play, making the World No.216 scramble for points.
Although both ladies exchanged breaks in the first set, it was Raducanu who relentlessly attacked her opponent's serve to secure a second break and claim the first set. The second set was a more one-sided affair, with Chirico hitting five double faults and losing her serve on two occasions. The double break was enough for the second seed, who closed out the match after an hour and 27 minutes.
With a convincing victory under her belt, Raducanu heads into a second round encounter with Colombian Maria Camila Osorio.
