Reigning Olympic gold medallist,
Belinda Bencic is expecting her first child and becomes the latest high-profile WTA star who will become a mother.
Bencic announced the news alongside her long-time partner and fitness coach, Martin Hromkovič. The couple started dating in November 2018 and are now set to become parents.
In a period in which the likes of Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina have given birth and then returned, it remains to be seen yet if the World No.14 will return to tennis.
No further details have been confirmed in terms of when Bencic is expecting her first child, but it is safe to say that she will miss the Australian Open and likely the defense of her Olympic Games gold medal in Paris if she does return to action.
"Expecting our little miracle soon, we can’t wait to meet you," wrote Bencic in a post also shared on the profile of her partner Martin Hromkovič.
Superb season ends in superb news
She has had a superb season at times with two titles and returning to the top 10 in the process. But perhaps the writing was on the wall for Bencic who withdrew from Guadalajara last month after losing in the opening round of the San Diego Open.
This after reaching the Last 16 of the US Open where she lost to Sorana Cirstea, the surprise package of the tournament who defeated Elena Rybakina.
Congratulations to Belinda and Martin on their news!
