Former world number one America’s legendary tennis star Serena
Williams’ ex-coach
Rennae Stubbs has once again questioned the WTA over their
broadcasting deal with Perform.
The Women’s Tennis Association signed a 10-year deal worth $525 million in 2014 which was set to run from 2017 to 2026. The deal was declared
to be a groundbreaking one for the women’s sport.
Some notable personalities, however, raised questions about
the deal, largely because of a lack of transparency and one of them was Stubbs.
The 52-year-old once again questioned the WTA about their negotiations of the
broadcast deal in her Instagram story by stating: “@WTA I’m looking at u.”
The criticism came following the announcement of a $240
million deal from the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) for a four-year
period. The former world number 62 suggested that WTA should do more to find a
better broadcasting deal.
Back when the deal was signed between the parties, people
questioned how the revenue would be shared amongst the players.
Stubs did not have a great career while playing in the singles
category where she never managed to play in the third round or beyond in any of
the Grand Slams. However, in the doubles category, the Sydney-born had an impressive
career as she ended up lifting five Grand Slam titles.
