Midway through day 3 of the US Open there were some unexpected exits with both Rybakina and Pliskova going home after easy defeats by Garcia and Rogers.

Any grand slams usually has surprises but a double one in one day is quite rare and today was the last day at the US Open for Rybakina and Pliskova. Elena Rybakina was slated for a breakthrough year before Coronavirus cut it short but not many people would have thought that she would be going home after just 2 matches. Her opponent was Shelby Rogers, a player who can play good tennis especially when home and today she did.
Ever since the first point Rogers it was evident that Rogers had a clear plan that worked to perfection. She was extremely aggressive and attacked Rybakina's 2nd serve every time which resulted in Rybakina winning only 7 out of 20 2nd service points. That was the key that allowed the American to win the 1st set 7-5.
The 2nd set was even more impressive from Rogers who continued the same plan which worked rather well. All through the match she also maintained a high level on her own serve never allowing Rybakina much. An early 3-1 lead soon became a 5-1 lead which lead to a 6-1 2nd set victory. A schoking result but very much deserved as Roger had a gameplan that worked to perfection.
Karolina Pliskova entered the US Open as the top seed something she usually does not and many expected a good run from her. The US open is the only grand slam where she played a final(2016) so there was a good chance for a good run but Caroline Garcia had other plans. The Frenchman jumped on Pliskova early and never look back. The first set was dominated by Garcia who bester her opponent in ever facet of the game.
The result was 6-1 and Pliskova was visibly disturbed. She looked very uncomfortable at the start of the 2nd set looking to shorten points and shaking her head every time she missed a forehand. Garcia was very composed and immidietly broke her opponent to take a 2-0 lead. Pliskova would find a way to fight and equalise so we ended up in a tiebreak. Garcia took an early 2-0 lead which then became a 4-2 lead and then a 6-2 lead before becoming a 7-2 tiebreak victory for Garcia.
