Daria Kasatkina and
Veronika Kudermetova are through to the
Roland Garros quarterfinal after wins over Giorgi and Keys.
Daria Kasatkina largely had no issues against
Camila Giorgi because the bad Giorgi showed up. There is always a coin flip with her and she usually either wins easily or losses easily. Today was the bad one as she was never really in the match. From the start, it was clear that Kasatkina had an advantage because her playstyle doesn't mesh well with her opponent.
Giorgi did hit 14 winners in the opening set but also committed 20 errors and that was more than enough for the 6-2 score. The 2nd set did not go any better as Kasatkina booked it 6-2 once more. Giorgi had 15 winners but once again 17 errors simply it was a bad match and the Russian cruised.
Joining her will be another Russian Veronika Kudermetova who came back to win against an inspired Madison Keys. The American is also a typical hit or miss player and while she was on point early on. She lost the compass later on. 6-1 was the score in the first set for Keys who was pretty strong on both serve and return. Kudermetova was not in a very good rhythm but she found it in the 2nd set.
Jumping out to a 3-0 lead early, Kudermetova never looked back building more and more confidence. Keys eroded on the other side and the result of all of that was a 6-1 score in the final set. She had 13 unforced errors in those 7 games and that's pretty bad for her. Overall a good day for Russian tennis and Medvedev and Rublev could make it even better.
