After the
first casualties and victories of the seeded players in the men's draw, we've seen also some action from the women's draw at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome.
Elena Rybakina,
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Amanda Anisimova were the first successful players in the first round.
The experienced Russian, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova took on Shuai Zhang who was already on a 2-match losing streak from the Flushing Meadows. Now, she didn't improve her statistics again when Pavlyuchenkova won the match in three sets 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1.
Another match that kicked-off the women's draw showed a dominant performance of one player. Elena Rybakina who was in a very good form before the WTA Tour suspension faced Ekaterina Alexandrova. The 10th-seeded Rybakina started a match with a streak of 9 won games and got a great headstart to the match. Although her opponent tried to come back, the lead was already too big and so Rybakina triumphed 6-0, 6-4 in just 62 minutes.
The women's draw also saw the first seeded player to lose a match. Amanda Anisimova and
Donna Vekic took both sets to a tie-break and a match lasted 2 hours and 23 minutes. The American player prevailed in both and got a 7-6(4), 7-6(6) victory.
