Billie Jean King and Tracy Austin sent heartfelt wishes to
former world number one
Chris Evert on her 69th birthday. Both legendary
players posted those messages on social media platform X — previously known as
Twitter.
"Sending my friend and class act a big happy birthday hug!
Sending positive thoughts, love, and support your way on your special
day," wrote two-time Grand Slam winner Austin.
"Today is our dear friend and tennis legend
@ChrissieEvert's birthday. Please join me in sending her some cheer, love, and
support on her special day," wrote 12-time Grand Slam winner King.
Evert is regarded as one of the greatest players in the
history of tennis in the women’s singles category in the Open era, having won
as many as 18 titles.
Her most successful competition was the French Open where she
lifted the title seven times (974, 1975, 1979, 1980, 1983, 1985, 1986).
Her first title was the French Open in 1974 when she
defeated Olga Morozova of China in the final in straight sets with a score of
6-0, 6-4. Her last title also came while playing at the Roland Garros in 1986 after
beating fellow American Martina Navratilova in the final with a score of 2–6,
6–3, 6–3.
