Serena Williams overcame a shaky start to defeat Sloane Stephens 2-1 and reach the 4th round of the US Open.

The shaky start for Serena against Stephens was quite shaky as she could not get anything to go. Stephens came out laser-focused playing extremely well, making it very hard for Serena to play her style and win games. Serena was particularly struggling on her own service game where she had to save break points in nearly every one of them. She lost two of them to give Stephens the 6-2 1st set.
In the 2nd set, she played much better and many expected she would. In her 3rd service game, she once again struggled, giving Stephens break points which she did not win. She then went on to break Stephens in the next game which gave her an immediate boost in confidence. Stephens looked lost after that surrendering one more service game and losing the set 6-2.
From that point, Serena was rolling and playing her aggressive style of tennis which brought her many winners. She found belief in herself knowing she turned the momentum around. On the other hand, Stephens looked very much disheartened after losing the 2nd set. She tried her best but Serena was at the top of her game a cruised to an easy 6-2 final set victory.
It was a tough win for Serena who didn't play her best until late in the match but a victory is all she wanted and she got it against a tough opponent who played extremely good tennis all week long.
