Serena Williams started off 2021 with a victory in a strong clash with
Naomi Osaka at the Adelaide exhibition and her joy was palpable.
It was a successful return of professional tennis in front of fans in 2021 as 4000 spectators in Adelaide had the chance to see some of the best play. Serena Williams was part of that battling it out with Naomi Osaka and winning 6-3 2-6 10-7. Following the match she gave an interview:
“Honestly, we haven't played in front of a crowd in over a year. So this is really cool. And then for having us, and trusting us with your laws, was great – we were so happy just to be here, and now it's worth it."
The joy was palpable in Serena and during her address to the fans, she said that she even forgot the question because she was so excited to see tennis back and to see fans again. The reporter didn't get to ask it again as they had to move on, so Serena apologised for the gaffe as the reporter wished her the best of luck during the Australian summer.
