WTA icon Serena Williams has racked up almost every tennis award available during and after her illustrious career. Now the 23-time Grand Slam champion can add another accolade to her resume after being honored with the Legend Award at the recent Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards.

The kids' television network Nickelodeon gives this annual honor to "an aspirational, game-changing global superstar whose name is synonymous with greatness," it said in a statement. Previous winners have included David Beckham, Michael Phelps and the late Kobe Bryant. The honorees are presented with a special, glittering gold version of the awards' iconic orange blimp statuette, which was formerly an alternate logo of the network.

Williams honored for hard work and perseverance

The American was present to receive her award at last week's event. Williams was presented her award by Kelly Rowland, of Destiny's Child fame. She thanked her parents, her family, and gave a special shout out to her sister, Venus Williams, "who's a legend too," before delivering a slice of wisdom to the next generation watching.

"This is so cool," gusher Williams. "You guys are the greatest crowd ever. I needed you all of those years at Wimbledon. I look at this crowd, filled with so many budding little legends, and I want all of you to know that no matter where you come from, and whatever your dreams are, you can achieve anything you put your mind to. If I can do it, you can do it."

Nickelodeon would later release a statement, lauding Williams for her achievements on and off the court.

"From Wimbledon to Wall Street, Hollywood to the White House … Serena Williams is a respected, beloved, and celebrated powerhouse," Nickelodeon said in their statement. "Her ascent to greatness, on and off the court, has inspired generations to reach further, push harder, and never give up on achieving their dreams. Serena’s story proves that through hard work and perseverance, everyone can become a legend."
