Serena Williams is out of
Roland Garros after losing to
Elena Rybakina 3-6 5-7 in the 4th round.
Serena Williams has played well at Roland Garros but Elena Rybakina is the best player she faced so far. It did not start well for Serena, as Rybakina broke Serena's serve early to take a 3-1 lead. She would hold it for several games but Serena found a way to break back making it 4-3. However, Rybakina countered immediately to take a 5-3 lead once more before closing it out with 6-3.
Serena was simply outhit by Rybakina in the first as the Kazakhstani player posted a 9-6 winner to error ratio while Serena had a 6-8 ratio. The 2nd set was a similar one as Serena once again struggled in rallies. Rybakina was solid all match and she broke Williams n the first game to take a 1-0 lead.
Williams countered to make it 1-1 but Rybakina once again took a lead later 4-3. Williams was once again able to pull it back and make it 4-4 before winning her service game to make it 5-4. It seemed Williams shifted momentum in her favour but Rybakina went on a 3-0 run to close out the match 7-5.
Serena once again posted a negative winner to error ratio of 9-11 while Rybakina posted a 12-7 ratio. The Russian was simply too solid today while Serena was not able to produce the level she had the previous days. Shame for Williams but she now looks at Wimbledon where she will be more dangerous than in Paris.
