Serena Williams rallied in the 2nd set from a deficit to defeat Collins in straight sets 6-4 6-4 at Roland Garros
It was a very high-quality match between Serena Williams and Danielle Collins with Williams emerging victorious in straight sets. The first set was a close battle between the two but midway through the set Williams was able to pull through with some stellar shot-making.
Williams served well in the 2nd set which kept Collins at a fair distance never giving her a proper chance. In the 2nd set, we saw a resurgent Collins who played much better with Serena not sure how to counter Collins. Serena broke Collins in the first game but then lost four in a row to trail 1-4.
After that moment Serena completely took over the match winning 5 games in a row to close out the match with 6-4. It was truly a remarkable display of resilience and calmness from Serena that looked like the Serena of old.
Collins put forward an inspired effort playing some stellar tennis at times but in the end, she could not withstand Williams who produced some great tennis in this match. Her level is improving in every match and she looks quite dangerous on the red dirt of the French Open.
98 minutes was needed for the victory and Serena will face Elena Rybakina in the 4th round. Follow our Live Blog here.
