Serena Williams had a rollercoaster match at the
Roland Garros but she is through to R2 after defeating Begu 7-6(6) 6-2.
Williams stepped out at 21:00 CET to play the first-ever night match at the Roland Garros and it proved good for her as she was able to win. Williams took an early lead 3-1 and seemed to enjoy her time on the court however things started to look shaky as the match progressed.
Somehow she held her lead and arrived at 5-4 serving for the set but lost two games in the row to trail 5-6. Begu had a chance to serve out the set but Serena came back to force a tiebreak. In it, she was down 4-6 with Begu having set points but won 4 points in a row to win 8-6.
Upon winning the match Serena left out a roar of emotion showing how much it meant to her. She started off the 2nd set much better breaking Begu early to take a 2-0 lead. The key game came at 3-2 to Williams where Begu had chances but impeccable serving by Serena preserved her the lead.
Williams then added another break to seal the deal with 6-2. A good start for Williams who struggled on clay so far this year.
