Both main stars of the 2019 Hawaii Tennis Open, Maria Sharapova and Kei Nishikori withdrew from the tournament as it started without them.

Maria Sharapova was supposed to play Misaki Doi in her semifinal match. Now after the Russian pulled out of the tournament the draw changed a bit. In the first semifinal match, Misaki Doi will be facin Angelique Kerber. And in the second match, Danielle Collins will be facing Yanina Wickmayer who defeated alternate Alyssa Tobita in the only quarterfinal match 6-1 and 6-1. After withdrawing, Sharapova said:
“I’m disappointed to announce my withdrawal from the Hawaii Open. I find myself needing a little more time and preparation before my first tournament back. I wish I could be there to see my fans who were coming to watch me play.”
In the men's part, it was Kei Nishikori who changed everything. Instead of him playing Sam Querrey, it will be Jordan Thompson who will meet the American in the semifinal. In the second semifinal match, Taylor Fritz will meet quarterfinal winner Brandon Nakashima who defeated Christian Harrison 6-0 and 6-1.
“Unfortunately I have to pull out of the Hawaii Open this year. I am not 100% ready yet. It is very disappointing as I love coming here. I look forward to meeting tennis fans here this week,” Nishikori said.
