Former British tennis player
Laura Robson believes that
her fellow countrywoman
Emma Raducanu is doing ‘a lot of things right’ on clay
this season. The 22-year-old, who was once regarded as the next big thing after
winning the US Open at the age of just 18 back in 2021, is going through a
mixed campaign.
Raducanu, who became the first player in the history of
women’s tennis in the Open era to lift a Grand Slam despite starting from the
qualifying round back in 2021, has featured in 10 different competitions this
year where she has only managed to secure a spot in the quarterfinal on one
occasion.
Raducanu’s clay court got underway in Madrid and since
then, she has played in eight matches, winning five of them and suffering
defeat in the other three. Her most recent outing came in Strasbourg where she
was knocked out after losing to America’s Danielle Collins with a score of 4-6,
6-1, 6-3.
Former British tennis player Robson has spoken to TNT Sports
where she talked about Raducanu’s chances ahead of the second Grand Slam of the
year — the
French Open. The 31-year-old was of the opinion that the former
world number 10 is doing ‘a lot of things right’ on clay this season. She also
stated that she has never Raducanu move as well as she has been doing this year
on the red surface.
"Absolutely, I think she's doing a lot of things
right on the clay," said Robson. "She is moving probably the best I've seen her on that surface and making sure that she's adjusting her game in some
ways to be able to play well on it with a little bit more height on her
forehand and a bit more variety from the back of the court."
The French Open 2025 will begin from May 25 where players
from all over the world will participate to showcase their talent and secure
the ultimate prize. Raducanu will begin her campaign against China’s Wang Xinyu.
