Iga Swiatek has developed a new aggressive game plan that has seen her accumulate a 23-match winning streak, and former World No.1
Andy Roddick has compared this style of play to that of former boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
Swiatek has been phenomenal during the 2022 WTA season. The 20-year old has won four consecutive WTA titles, with the most recent being in Stuttgart. Nonetheless, the World No.1 opted to skip the
Madrid Open, and is currently preparing for Roland Garros, where she lifted the title in 2020.
Roddick believes the polish star made the right decision, noting that her health going into a Grand Slam should be the number one priority.
"When you have won it as much as she has and has made it habitual, your health going into Roland Garros is priority one," said the American. "She is not going to forget how to go after the ball, taking a week off from Madrid."
Furthermore, Roddick praised Swiatek's aggressive gameplay, comparing her to boxing legend Mike Tyson in his prime.
"We knew she was a dogged competitor, already a major champion before this move," added the 2003 US Open champion. "And the fact that she has been able to roll it out in match circumstances and is way better, she just dominates now.
"It’s like Tyson, when he used to fight back in the days and he would just walk up and start punching people. There was no dancing around. She just hits people in the mouth now. It’s fun to watch."
