Andy Roddick is amazed by teenager Mirra Andreeva and has assured that she will be the future No. 1 in the WTA rankings. The American highlighted the Russian’s impressive physical capacity at such a young age, allowing her to compete against the best in the world.
Andreeva’s meteoric rise has not gone unnoticed. In 2025, she holds a 20-4 record and currently sits third in the WTA Race. The 17-year-old reached No. 6 in the WTA rankings at just 17 years and 10 months old, making her the youngest player in the top six since Maria Sharapova in 2005.
Former world No. 1 Andy Roddick has high expectations for Andreeva and praised her remarkable level in recent weeks in a column for Betway Insider. “I said on our show a month ago that I thought she looks like a future World No. 1 for sure. I don’t like to jump from winning in Dubai to Steffi Graf comparisons – that seems like we’re skipping a couple of years – but just based on how she’s playing, she’s going to be firmly in the conversation to be one of the top couple of players this year.”
The American also highlighted the world No. 6’s ability to adapt to all surfaces. “She seems like she’s fluent on all surfaces. She had a great run at Roland Garros last year, and it seems like she’s fine matching up against the top players in the world. Everything points to her being a contender sooner rather than later.”
Roddick stated that what impresses him most about the young Russian is her remarkable physical ability despite her age. “What impresses me most about Mirra Andreeva is her ability to stand up physically against the best players in the world. I thought that physicality was going to take some time,” he commented.
“It’s not easy when you’re trying to beat people as physically dominant as Sabalenka and Swiatek, and you’re 17. I’ve never questioned her tennis, but she’s serving now like she’s levelled up amazingly well in the last four or five months.”
Andreeva’s next challenge will be the WTA 500 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, which starts on April 14. She will be the 6th seed in a star-studded draw featuring eight top-10 players.
