Stefanos Tsitsipas supported Paula Badosa's participation in the 2023 Wimbledon amidst her injuries.
The Spanish tennis player was gradually finding her form in the clay court tournaments but had to take a break after her quarterfinal defeat to Jelena Ostapenko at the Rome Open.
Badosa shared on her social media accounts at that time that she had suffered a stress fracture in a vertebra, which caused her to miss the French Open and not compete in the grass-court season. Still uncertain, the former world No. 2 will wait until the end to see if her recovery allows her to be present at the third Grand Slam of the year:
“Slowly getting better and stating to do some workouts. Having everyday treatment for hours and trying my best to try to get to Wimbledon on minimum conditions. I’m really missing it a lot, luckily having the best people around me... that helps me,” said Badosa on Wimbledon.
In an interview with AS, Stefanos Tsitsipas was asked about his girlfriend's participation, and although he left some uncertainty, he said that it wouldn't surprise him if she played, giving a positive indication regarding Badosa's involvement:
“It is a question for Paula. But if she had to say something, she has a lot of determination. She won't surprise me if she plays,” he said.
Stefanos Tsitsipas entered Wimbledon as the fifth seed and will face 2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem in the first round. The Greek player has never had a notable performance at Wimbledon, with his best result being reaching the fourth round in 2018, where he was eliminated by John Isner in three sets.
Badosa had her best performance at Wimbledon last year, reaching the round of 16 before losing to former Wimbledon champion Simona Halep. For this edition, she was drawn to face world No. 140 Alison Riske in the first round and could potentially meet Greek player Maria Sakkari in the second round.
