Iga Swiatek criticized the governing bodies of tennis for the way they handled the WTA schedule and Pam Shriver backed her.
Swiatek won't be playing for Poland in the Billie Jean King Cup once again after having to cancel her participation last year as well. It's a hugely disappointing thing for her as she loves representing her country and she was furious that it was once again due to scheduling.
As the top player in the world, Swiatek will play at the WTA Finals in Texas this year. If she opted to play in the Cup as well, she would have had to fly directly to Glasgow immediately and be ready to play in maybe even less than 24 hours if she made it to the final. That's because the event starts on Monday, one day after the WTA Finals conclude.
Pam Shriver backed Swiatek on social media writing:
"Really unfortunate schedule again for these two important events. The sport should do better for the players and the events."
Tennis fans have already slammed Swiatke for bailing on Poland once more claiming she only plays for money.
