Simona Halep came back from 4-6 0-3 down to win against
Katerina Siniakova who once again battled physical issues in Bad Hamburg 4-6 6-3 6-4.
Katerina Siniakova can't catch a break with her health as the Czech player is playing some really good tennis when fully healthy. She nearly defeated Bianca Andreescu last week in Berlin but physical issues saw her drop her level towards the end of the match which she lost. It literally happened again as the Czech player battled hard to take the opening set from Simona Halep 6-4.
She then went up 0-3 but after then it all kind of fell apart. She took a medical timeout when Halep turned it around to 4-3 but it didn't do anything and her level continued to erode with her frustration shining through as well.
Halep struggled a lot with her serve but it could be explained thanks to the aggressive nature of Siniakova's return. The Czech player was attacking the 2nd serve superbly in the opening set winning 14 of 17 points after Halep missed her first. She risked more with her serve and committed four double faults which were costly in the 4-6 first set.
That continued in the 2nd set as well but Siniakova was too vulnerable on her own serve with Halep taking advantage of it 6-3. In the final set, Simona finally played the way she can outplaying Siniakova in every part of the game early. At 4-2, she dropped her serve completely throwing away the lead. She then broke for the 5-3 lead but lost serve again with the 2nd serve once again being the issue. She was able to escape with another break 6-4.
