Simona Halep is enjoying a very strong run in Madrid and the run allowed her to overtake Sharapova in the all-time prize money rankings.
The Romanian player has been at the top of women's tennis for many years now and over the years she accumulated quite a lot of prize money. She was in fourth place before the WTA
Madrid Open began but with a few wins here she overtook Sharapova at number 3.
Halep has now earned $38,842,886 in her career ahead of Sharapova who has earned $38,777,962. Number two on that list is Venus Williams with $42,280,540 and that seems like a realistic number to catch for Halep. The undisputed number one of course is Serena Williams with $94,518,971.
