Simona Halep will finally have her fate decided, but not until early next year as the former World No.1 has had her hearing added to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) hearings list after she appealed her four-year ban from the sport.
Halep has had a protracted stint away from the sport after testing positive for Roxudustat back at the US Open in 2022. She has since not played and her ranking has fallen away. She has gone through a lot of battles in particular with the ITIA after her hearings were pushed back before a four year ban was handed down.
Halep's cryptic Instagram post
As well as all of the issues with the ITIA, her former coach Patrick Mouratoglou has blamed himself and his team for Halep taking the substance which supposedly was a collagen supplement with the drug in it.
She then tested positive again after the initial failed test for irregularities with her biological passport and has since moved from Romania to the UAE as her appeal verdict will be heard next year.
But this is also interesting on many levels with Halep posting a cryptic post earlier this week saying 'Ready to come back from where everything started, Roland Garros Juniors 2008. Merci beaucoup Paris.' If she does return, the earliest if her ban is absolved would be the Indian Wells and Miami double but is more likely to be in time for Roland Garros.
So either Halep is simply being cryptic about visiting the country around this period or believes that she will win her case of appeal and her ban will be thrown out. Once again though, it will be a second year that her sporting career will be put on hold for as she has to sit and train ready for a return if it does come next year and longer if her appeal doesn't work out.
