questioned Simona Halep after her response to Caroline Wozniacki's criticism of
the Miami Open organization's decision to grant Halep a wild card. In a press
conference, the Danish player was asked about Halep's return, and the 2018
Australian Open champion expressed her opinion that wild cards should not be
given to players who "purposely cheat."
"This
is not directly at Simona, but if someone purposely cheats, if someone has
tested positive for doping, I don't think people should be awarded wildcards
afterwards," Wozniacki said. If you want to come back and it's been a
mistake, I understand, but you should work your way up from the bottom," the
former world No. 1 added.
The
Romanian recently received a reduction in her doping ban sentence from 4 years
to 9 months and defended that she did not cheat. Halep even said that Wozniacki
should read the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) 'better'.
"Only
one person being negative about me is not that important because I have
hundreds of people that [are] giving me love, so I will take that," Halep
said.
Fans
reacted on social media to Halep's comments about Wozniacki, and many of them
criticized the attitude of the 2-times Grand Slam champion in her response:

I've been a fan of Halep since 2013, but her behavior after this whole situation is so off-putting. She's acting like she's still not been proven guilty of the usage of the substance. The sentence was reduced, not removed. You are still guilty. Maybe humble yourself
The ITIA stated im their decision Halep would have needed to ingest 5,000 times the recommended daily dose of the supplement to produce the concentration of roxadustat found in her sample.

- If there is some other reason, like exhaustion or self-preservation by not playing in consecutive tourneys, then simply say so. There's no shame in self preservation. Since the WTA obviously does not seriously consider a player's physical and mental stress as they schedule back-to-back majors, it's okay to adhere to such a healthy agenda and admit it. The illness thing is kind of suspect at this point; if only because of the timing pattern.

Is it truly an illness causing these withdrawals? It may be helpful -- even encouraging -- for others whom also suffer whatever illness is ongoing here to know what she is dealing with; and how. If they can play in open courts like Rome with all the noise from each court they surely could survive cheering, etc., during play (i.e., a singles match with only a 2 meter fence between them and a men's doubles -- and very loud noise from each side).mandoist10-05-2024
