Former US Open champion
Bianca Andreescu claimed her first singles trophy since 2019 — the year she won her only Grand Slam title. The Canadian is currently away from the big stages, but she captured the W35 Bradenton title after failing to secure a spot in the Australian Open.
While there had been speculation about a potential wildcard for the former world No. 4, it ultimately did not materialise. Andreescu is nonetheless taking the opportunity to compete in smaller tournaments to regain rhythm and strengthen her physical condition.
At 25, the Canadian has faced persistent injury problems throughout her career, which have prevented her from maintaining consistent form on tour. Determined to return to her best tennis, she decided to compete on the ITF circuit — a plan that will continue over the next three weeks.
Tournament Performance
Andreescu can take some positive lessons from the week, particularly her competitiveness and physical consistency. She defeated Malkia Ngounoue (unranked), Ella McDonald (No. 525), Tatiana Pieri (No. 350), Lea Ma (No. 342), and on Sunday, she triumphed in the final against Vivian Wolff (No. 325).
Although her first-round match went to three sets, all subsequent matches were straight-set wins. In the final, Andreescu defeated Wolff 6-2, 7-5 in one hour and 31 minutes.
The match was delayed due to afternoon rain in Florida. Andreescu, now world No. 227, dominated from the start, breaking twice to move to 4-0. Wolff fought back to take a couple of service games, but Andreescu closed out the first set 6-2.
The second set started similarly, with Andreescu breaking immediately and taking the lead. Wolff briefly recovered, taking a 3-2 lead, creating a tense battle of nerves with exchanged breaks. However, Andreescu’s experience prevailed, securing a crucial late break to win the match and the trophy.
The victory should move her up roughly 10 spots in the rankings, putting her within the top 220 in the next update. Her upcoming tournaments include Weston (W35), Vero Beach (W75), and Orlando (W50).
