Stephens and Badosa through to Roland Garros round 2

Sloane Stephens and Paula Badosa booked spots in Roland Garros next round with good performances as day turned to night in Paris.

Sloane Stephens stepped onto the red clay today facing off against Diatchenko at Roland Garros and she played very well earning a victory in straight sets. The end result as 6-2 6-2 and the match went largely as the result suggests. Sloane broke her opponent in the first game to take a 2-0 lead and once more to take a 5-1 lead before ending the set with 6-2. She served and played well not allowing Diatchenko any breakpoints.

The 2nd set was similar in the sense that she continued to serve and play well. She also broke her opponent early to take a 3-1 lead and once more later on to take a 5-1 lead. Once again she ended the set and with it the match with a 6-2 set victory. All in all a strong display against a lesser opponent.

Joining her in the round will be Paula Badosa who played a very good match against Kateryna Kozlova to advance to the next round. The Spanish player started off well winning the opening set 6-2 in 40 minutes of play. The 2nd set was a proper battle with the Spaniard having a chance to win it but she ultimately dropped off as the set progressed allowing Kozlova to win it 6-4.

The final one was much better from Badosa as she came out fierce winning rally after rally. She would go on to break Kozlova early to secure herself an early lead from which she drew enough momentum to carry her to a 6-3 set victory.
