Stubbs' endorsement signals new hope for Iga Swiatek's future performance

Ex-coach of the former world number one Serena Williams, Rennae Stubbs, believes that Poland’s Iga Swiatek will benefit from changing her coach. The 23-year-old is already regarded as one of the best players currently playing in women’s tennis, along with the likes of Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka.

Swiatek had an impressive season, winning a Grand Slam. She lifted the French Open title after beating Italy's Jasmine Paolini in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-1. However, things started to deteriorate towards the later stages as she missed the events after the US Open. That also led her to lose the top spot in the WTA rankings. While staying away from the court, Swiatek announced that she parted ways with her former coach, Tomsz Wiktorowski. She later announced that Wim Fissette had joined the coaching staff. "So, I have news for you today as I'm excited and motivated to start a new chapter. I'm happy to announce that Wim Fissette is joining our team," she wrote.

An ex-coach of former world number one Serena, Stubbs, has been recently quoted in a report in which she expressed optimism that Swiatek is likely to do well with the arrival of a new coach. Stubbs was of the opinion that her previous coach, Wiktorowski, had a different demeanour, something which did not help the former world number one.

"New coach, new perspective, definitely a lot different personality to Tomsz Wiktorowski, who's a little demure and a little dour on his good days. The man who never smiles. The man who never smiles. And I think that, you know, Eger doesn't, I think Iga needs to be far from that personality because she's already pretty uptight and, you know, a pretty quiet person in and of itself. And she needs someone around her that's going to make this sport fun."
