Andy
Roddick praised
Caroline Wozniacki after her comeback win against Jennifer
Brady at the US Open.
The Danish
player's return to the WTA tour has been impressive thus far. After more than
three years without competing, Wozniacki made her comeback at the Canadian
Open, where she won her opening match against Kimberley Barrell but was later
eliminated by the recent Wimbledon champion, Marketa Vondrousova, in a closely
contested match.
Her
performance in Cincinnati was less than stellar, exiting in the first round
against Varvara Gracheva. However, she arrived at the US Open demonstrating
that she still has the competitive edge at the highest level.
Wozniacki
has now secured three consecutive victories. First, she defeated Tatiana
Prozorova (6-3, 6-2), followed by an incredible win against the world No. 11,
Petra Kvitova (7-5, 7-6), and in the third round, she came from behind to beat
Jennifer Brady (4-6, 6-3, 6-1).
Former
tennis star
Andy Roddick praised Wozniacki on social media for her skills in
rallies and her remarkable performance:
"@CaroWozniacki
superpower is accepting pain in these rallies. Can do it over and over again.
She’s so damn tough. Doesn’t give an inch," Roddick wrote on X.
Wozniacki
will now face the world No. 6,
Coco Gauff. The local hope is pinned on the
19-year-old sensation, who is on an incredible run of 14-1 since the start of
the North American hardcourt swing, including her first WTA 500 title in
Washington and her first WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati.
Gauff is
defending the quarterfinals she reached in the 2022 US Open (where she was
defeated by Caroline Garcia).
Former
world No. 1 Wozniacki has reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the
first time since the 2018 French Open, following seven unsuccessful attempts in
a Slam main draw. Wozniacki has had impressive campaigns at Flushing Meadows,
including three semifinal appearances and two finals (2009 and 2014).
