Svitolina advanced to the semifinals at the US Open after defeating Konta

Elina Svitolina reached second Grand Slam semifinals of this year, after success at Wimbledon, she won also in quarterfinals at the US Open against Johanna Konta.

Svitolina could enter the match with much more confidence than her opponent. Not only that she did not lose a set at the US Open, while her opponent lost 2. Svitolina was able to win in all four games between these two, and she was certainly more likely to advance to the semifinals.

Opening the play at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, both sets looked almost identical. Konta started to serve first, and Svitolina managed to break the opponent's service in the fifth game. Consequently, Konta managed to do so, but Svitolina broke opponent's serve again and the British could not answer anymore. And so Svitolina won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

This year, Ukraine managed to advance among the last four at the Grand Slam for the second time, after success at Wimbledon. In the next round she will meet the winner of the match between Serena Williams and Qiang Wang.
