Following the victories of Pliskova and Bencic, the fifth-seeded Svitolina also wanted to win her first match at the 2020 Australian Open. And she was successful in doing so when she defeated Katie Boulter in an hour and 23 minutes 6-4, 7-5.
She was followed into the 2nd round by Yulia Putintseva who eased past Su-Wei Hsieh 6-1, 6-3. Laura Siegemund added another easy victory when she defeated Coco Vandeweghe 6-1, 6-4. But the fastest of them all was Cici Bellis who outplayed Tatjana Maria in just 54 minutes 6-0, 6-2.
Elina Svitolina will meet Lauren Davis in the 2nd round. Later, she can possibly set up a third-round clash with Garbine Muguruza. 2019 WTA Finals runner-up will be trying to reach at least quarterfinals at the 2020 Australian Open to repeat her success from 2018 and 2019.
